Frequently Asked Questions
In landfills, organic waste breaks down anaerobically (without oxygen).
This process produces methane, a greenhouse gas with a global warming potential 28-36 times higher than carbon dioxide over a 100-year period
Depending on the cycle, Kompo uses only 0.7-1.5 KWH (typically around 30p worth)
We understand this may not be clear, and its certainly a fair question! However, when comparing the energy use of Kompo to the methane emissions it helps avoid, the benefits are clear. For instance, composting 52 kg of organic waste annually prevents the release of 0.052 tonnes of CO2-equivalent methane emissions. The CO2 emissions from the electricity used, even from non-renewable sources, are significantly lower, making our composter a net positive for the environment.
